This work started without an idea or plan and came straight from my hands. I wanted to create a representation of what it's like to be different, to be young, and to be conflicted. I concern myself with the reality of my own existence, within this I find myself questioning the purpose of reality frequently during the creative process. Being hyper-aware of my mortality is my reason to make art, I feel that perhaps after death my artwork will live beyond me and my existence is experienced by people I won’t meet and in places I won’t visit…...
People are Candles. We start as bright pure lights with so much potential, untouched by the atrocities of the world. As we age, we let go of little pieces of ourselves, allowing ourselves to become dimmed and damaged. Although a ravenous flame in our bellies keeps us fighting. Finally, the fire within us fizzles out and we drift off in a whirlwind of smoke, leaving behind a husk of what was. ...
We are led to believe that there's an all-knowing father watching over us, right? A kind and loving god? If that's true, then what kind of father lets his children, murder in his name. Fight wars in his name. Die bloody in his name. There is no god. If there was, he's abandoned us. So we are left with only one option. To become a god. We are gods. ...
